Houston, Avatar, and a Giant Basset Hound

Sun Dec 27, 2009, 8:30 PM
Merry post-Christmas! Ah, that lovely time of year when prices are low and gifts are returned and exchanged like there's no tomorrow :D

My grandparents gave me a giant basset hound puppet (among other things) for Christmas. Not only is it a puppet, but it's a big, cute one that smacks you in the back of the head when you turn it! It's so soft and cuddly... *huggles* I don't think I'll be bringing this one to school XD

My parents and I spent Christmas Eve and Christmas down in Houston with my half sister, her husband, and their two kids (a 3-year-old and a technically just turned 2-year-old). It was colder than we expected, but it was fun! We went to the zoo, saw G.I. Joe, made sassy comments while watching G.I. Joe (now, really; what did the French prison have to do with anything?), made cookies, ate cake, blew bubbles, played (to exhaustion) with the kids, and a lot more in those three or so days :D
Our flight back was delayed over five hours, though 0_o
At least it was a short flight and I got to read through the latest National Geographic :D

Guess who saw Avatar today?! That movie better get some nominations. And an award.
You just can't not give a nomination to blue, bioluminescent kitty-people living in a bioluminescent world with floating mountains, kitty-dogs, and really cool dragon-things. Then there was even a good story to go with it! That, my friends, is a rare thing XD

Happy New Year!

And the video: [link] OneManSho is back! :D

Snow, Holidays, and a Spiffy Camera

Sat Dec 19, 2009, 8:49 PM
Kiriban at 22,222 pageviews! And don't you dare miss it. Again. 0_o

Nature Calendar for sale! The new 2010 calendar is available from ~Nature-Calendar :D

Happy holidays!

We've been getting a lot of snow around here; the snow's not too deep, but it's been snowing! Snow shots can be expected :)
I should probably get some wintery art up, too. I don't have many winter-themed drawings or paintings in my gallery (or anywhere else, for that matter). I'll work on that.

As for the spiffy camera bit... I got a new camera! It's a Nikon Coolpix P90!
This thing's really snazzy; it's not a D-SLR (the lenses would kill me, I swear!) and it's higher up than a regular compact. The P90 has a whopping 24x optical zoom, so I should finally be able to get some wildlife shots, and not just squirrels! I tested it today at the elk pen and my dad and I realized exactly how much 24x is XD
The camera was an early Christmas present from my grandparents; they gave us the money for the camera while we were in Japan and my dad bought it yesterday.
Now I don't know what to do with the money I was saving up XD

Once again, happy holidays! :santa:

New Nature Calendar; Holy Potatos! 3 Years of DA?

Sun Dec 6, 2009, 7:53 AM
The new Nature Calendar is available for purchase here: [link]
DA calendars are currently 20% off, so be sure to get one soon! The previous two calendars are still for sale; they are both 2010 calendars, but they will still say the year for which they were made on the cover :)

What's this? I've been a member of DeviantART for 3 years, now? And I haven't encountered much drama in those three years? I love this place! XD

I've been rather inactive lately, and I apologize for not responding to comments until... about yesterday... and I've been deleting more or less all of my fav messages since September. Homework has been taking up a good deal of my time this school year. Come to think of it, I should probably be doing homework now instead of writing a journal entry 0_o

Last week, I was in Japan, so you should be seeing some photos soon :) We went to two zoos and had takoyaki two or three times during the week we were at my grandparent's house! There was also a lot of television... strange, strange television...

The Road and Fantastic Mr. Fox are now out in theaters! If you've seen either, please tell me if you liked it! I have to convince my parents to see them :D

Why, Hello There, DeviantART Journal!

Sun Oct 25, 2009, 4:58 PM
I haven't seen you for ages! 0_o

Gah. I had my whole journal written out, but my computer went wonky and closed out of all of my windows. Now I have to rewrite it, which, I suppose, would make up for the fact that I haven't written in my journal since the release of 9 XD

On a happy note, I hit 20,000 views! Cake for everyone!
Too bad no one caught it (just like 15k, 11,111, 10k...). Kiriban is at 22,222 pageviews now, so be sure to catch it! :)

On an even happier note, Halloween is coming up!
Who will be wearing a costume? What kind of costume? Comment below, please! :D

Don't forget about Pooka Day on November 1st; be sure to pick the last of your crops on October 31st! XD

The ~Nature-Calendar Project will be accepting entries until Tuesday, September 15!
There's no exact time at which entries are due, as long as they come in by the specified day.

I saw 9 yesterday in a surprisingly empty theater.
It was great! A lot of critics said that the story didn't have much meaning, which, I'm not going to lie, is true, but everything else in the movie makes up for it, especially 7 and the Winged Beast :D

Also, as an obsessive weirdo, I have to say that it was pretty close to the original, in terms of both plot and style :)

Hey, I haven't updated my journal for a while, have I? I say that too often. I'm thinking I should write more...
My English teacher (who is made of win) says that the best way to improve your writing is to take out a piece of paper and write. For 10 minutes straight. Without picking up your pen. Every. Day.
Of course, he neither does this nor suggests that people should do it, but he found the idea rather interesting and shared it with us. As someone who writes in cursive, I don't think I'll be doing it either, but I've always tried to type up a story of some sort every week.
I've never actually gotten to writing every week... but I'll try. I made a LiveJournal for that purpose some time ago and I have yet to use it 0_o

So, if you also have a writing blog or would like to try out this daily/weekly writing idea, send me a link! I'd love to read it! :D

Kiriban at 20,000 pageviews! :D
I'll do a drawing/painting request for anyone who catches it (or a few after 20k, if no one catches it again XD). I'll do sculpture requests, too, but I'll only be able to give it to you if I know you offline :)

Note: if you faved/watched and you're wondering why I haven't sent you a "thank you" message, it's because I deleted all of my activity messages from last month. I figured that 2-3 weeks is a long delay, and most people don't seem to mind as long as I reply to their comments XD
